The Audacious Life: Inspired by Jade Simmons at Lakewood Church
This past Sunday, my family and I tuned in to Lakewood Church’s February 2025 service, expecting a typical worship experience. But what we encountered was something so powerful, so life-changing, that it left us in awe. We were shocked—not just by the music, but by the message, the boldness, and the vision of a woman who embodies faith, excellence, and purpose. That woman is Jade Simmons.
When she sat at the piano, we anticipated a beautiful performance. But when she began to speak, we were left completely stunned. Here was a woman of great confidence, unwavering faith, and an undeniable vision. She spoke with authority, as someone who knows her God, knows her purpose, and refuses to live beneath the greatness He has called her to. She is our kind of person—someone who merges faith with talent, purpose with passion, and vision with action.
But what truly shook us was her statement: “Being the best, for Christians, is just basic.” Imagine that! Our entire perspective shifted in that moment. As a family of academicians, artists, and technologists, we have always strived for excellence in our respective fields. Personally, I pursue multiple disciplines—music, filmmaking, writing, technology, and entrepreneurship—with the dream of becoming a polymath and a billionaire who blesses others. But hearing her words ignited something deeper within me: a realization that striving for excellence is not an option; it is our divine responsibility.
Jade Simmons is more than just a classical pianist; she is a visionary. I was amazed to learn that she has a double degree, was crowned Miss Illinois 1999, and even ran for U.S. President in 2020. Her journey is proof that faith-filled women can be powerful, intelligent, and influential. In her, I see the embodiment of the women of faith in the Bible—leaders, speakers, warriors. The idea that women should not lead is outdated and fear-driven. Leadership is not about gender; it is about calling. Men and women are equal in God’s eyes, each with gifts and talents meant to impact the world.
Her message resonated deeply. She spoke of how our lives should “leave behind an undeniable effect.” We are not just meant to exist but to make a lasting impact. She reminded us that God is audacious, mighty, and perfect—and that we, as His children, should mirror His greatness. We should not settle for mediocrity but push to become the new standard, so much so that others chase after us and elevate themselves in the process.
The scripture she referenced, Joshua 8:8, struck a chord with me: “When you have taken the city, set it on fire.” This is what we are called to do—set the world ablaze with our purpose, our excellence, and our faith. We are to burn away fear, mediocrity, division, and doubt. We should move with boldness, knowing that our lives are meant to resonate like music, leaving behind a powerful sound that echoes even after we are gone – a legacy.
This message was a call to action. It reminded me that my dreams of greatness are not selfish; they are God-given. We are meant to break barriers, redefine standards, and live audaciously for Christ. For young people reading this, I urge you—do not be afraid to dream big. Work tirelessly on your skills, develop your gifts, and pursue excellence. God did not create you to be small. He has placed fire within you—let it burn brightly.
Let us rise to the challenge. Let us be people of consequence. Let us, as Jade Simmons so powerfully declared, “live out loud.”
